RE:Next
Performance, McChesney Scott Dunn Auditorium, SECCA, March 22 – 24, 2007
This project offers utopia as a platform for radically imagining our collective ‘next’. The
public phase of the work was launched in the balcony gallery at SECCA where the exhibition
space became a staging area for exploration of utopian desire through diverse
creative processes. The March performance was the focus of the ‘utopia-work’ with the
exhibition site an ideal laboratory for unfolding ideas. Through the language of experiment
and invention, an accumulation of video loops, writings, drawings, performative
actions and other hybrid materials were introduced into the space by designated performers
as well as members of the community. In this way, RE:garding Next, the exhibition,
grew into RE:Next, the performance – a possible future through which to imagine how we
all impact the shape of our collective next.
